Know His Name

Gathered Light · Psalm 115

Intro

Verse

Built our lives on man-made things

Chasing ghosts that never speak

Empty hands, we called it gold

But it never gave us peace

Every road just led us back

To the weight we couldn’t hide

Then You cut through all the noise

And You opened up our eyes

Pre-Chorus

They don’t hear and they don’t move

They don’t love the way You do

We were lost in what was fake

Till Your truth showed us the way

Chorus

Not to us, but to Your name

All the glory, all the praise

You’re the life that we were chasing

You’re the truth that never changed

Not to us, but to Your name

All the glory, all the praise

Verse

You’re the voice that answers back

When we call You in the dark

You’re the shield around our chest

You’re the fire in our hearts

You don’t leave, You don’t delay

You don’t turn Your face away

Every promise that You made

Still stands here today

Pre-Chorus

You are help and You are shield

You are constant, You are real

We don’t trust in empty things

We will trust in You alone

Chorus

Not to us, but to Your name

All the glory, all the praise

You’re the life that we were chasing

You’re the truth that never changed

Not to us, but to Your name

All the glory, all the praise

Bridge

Trust in the Lord, He won’t fail

He remembers, He restores

He will bless forevermore

Prayer Outro — Calm

Not to us, Lord…

but to Your name be the glory.

Keep our hearts steady in You,

and let our lives reflect Your truth.

Behind the song

"Know His Name" translates Psalm 115's carved idols into a modern emotional world of broken things, empty promises, and attractive substitutes. The question is not limited to statues; it reaches anything asked to provide identity, peace, or security while lacking the ability to truly know or love us. "They don't hear and they don't move" sets that lifelessness against a God who answers, protects, and remains present. The chorus redirects glory away from the self and back to the living God.

Listening reflection

Built on Psalm 115's contrast between idols that cannot hear and the God who acts, the lyric names the ache of chasing 'man-made things' and 'empty hands, we called it gold.' The turn comes with 'Not to us, but to Your name,' handing glory back where the Psalm places it. What follows is the language of help and shield — constant, real, unmoved.
