Now and Forever

Gathered Light · Psalm 113

Verse

Praise the Lord, let the servants rise

Lift His name into the skies

From the dawn to the evening light

Let His glory stay alive

High above every land and throne

Still He sees us from His home

God of wonder, God Most High

Yet He bends His ear to mine

Pre-Chorus

From the rising of the sun

Till the day and night are done

Let the earth and heavens say

Blessed be Your holy name

Chorus

Praise the name of the Lord

Now and forever, praise the Lord

He lifts the lowly from the dust

And covers them in love and trust

Praise the name of the Lord

Now and forever, praise the Lord

Verse

He will pull the poor from pain

Lift the weak and break their chains

Set them where the honored stand

With the leaders of the land

Where the empty used to cry

He will fill the house with life

Joy will bloom where shame had been

And His mercy enters in

Pre-Chorus

From the rising of the sun

Till the day and night are done

Let the earth and heavens say

Blessed be Your holy name

Chorus

Praise the name of the Lord

Now and forever, praise the Lord

He lifts the lowly from the dust

And covers them in love and trust

Praise the name of the Lord

Now and forever, praise the Lord

Bridge

Who is like the Lord our God

High above, yet near in love

Seated over earth and sky

Still He hears the faintest cry

Prayer Outro, Spoken Prayer

Lord, be near us when we’re low.

Lift our hearts and make us whole.

Let our lives give praise to You,

from morning light to evening too

Behind the song

"Now and Forever" was built to preserve Psalm 113's communal call to praise. Its repetition is intentionally simple enough for many voices to join, while the verses hold together the Psalm's great contrast: God reigns above every nation yet notices and lifts people living at the lowest places. "High above, yet near in love" is the hinge. Divine greatness appears as attention, dignity, and restoration. The closing prayer turns celebration into response, asking that a life God has lifted might itself become praise.

Listening reflection

The song keeps time with the Psalm's own horizon — from the rising of the sun until day and night are done — and turns that span into a repeated blessing of the name of the Lord. Its images stay close to Psalm 113: the poor pulled out of pain, the weak set where the honoured stand, an empty house filled with life. Praise here is less a performance than a habit stretched across a lifetime.
